Roy Knyrim is an American film director and special effects artist from Rochester, New York. From a young age, Knyrim took a strong interest in filmmaking, and made his own films as a child. After graduating from high school, Knyrim worked on the special effects for Slugs (1988), the second and third The Toxic Avenger. Knyrim later moved to Southern California and cofounded Sota F/X with Jerry Macaluso, creating effects and visuals for films such as Weird Science, The Abyss and Ed Wood. In 1999, Knyrim created Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher for the Sci-Fi Channel, and directed his first feature film, Demons at the Door, in 2001. In 2002, Knyrim directed a commercial for Insane Clown Posse's The Wraith: Shangri-La, leading to further collaborations with Psychopathic Records, including music videos for Esham ("Woo Woo Woo") and Twiztid ("Story of Our Lives").
